If your coaching sessions feel “nice”… but your clients leave unchanged… we need to talk.

The coaching industry has shifted. Women are listening harder. Deciding smarter. And they are no longer paying premium prices for coaches who simply feel supportive.

In this episode, I’m breaking down why masterful coaching has become one of the biggest advantages in business right now. Because in this era of coaching, mastery is the premium.

Ready to become the kind of coach clients remember, refer, and deeply trust? Courageous Coaching® Certification teaches you the art of masterful coaching so your work creates powerful breakthroughs, premium-level results, and lasting impact.

Hey, woman entrepreneur. If your coaching sessions feel supportive, but your clients still aren't fully transforming, this episode is going to challenge you. Because the coaching industry has changed. Women are no longer saying yes because a coach is inspiring or heart-centered or has a beautiful brand. They're saying yes to coaches whose work creates transformation. The kind of coaching that interrupts patterns, shifts identity, moves clients into powerful decisions, and changes the direction of their lives. I'm Kendall, and in this episode, we're going all in on coaching mastery. Why average coaching is losing power, what masterful coaching actually looks like right now, and why your ability to create real movement in a session is directly connected to your income, referrals, reputation, and growth as a coach. It's all here for you in this episode of The Money Coach School Podcast. Let's dive in.

Welcome to The Money Coach School Podcast. To really excel at coaching women, you have to be skilled, confident, and even fearless at money coaching. If you're passionate about women holding genuine money power and love supporting women entrepreneurs, then this is the show for you. Now, here's your host, money feminist Kendall SummerHawk.

Hey, woman entrepreneur. Welcome back to The Money Coach School Podcast. So much is changing in the online space, certainly, and within that, in the microcosm that is the coaching space. Something dramatically has shifted and I am so all in for it. And here's what it is. Clients are paying attention in a very different way. They are listening more closely. They're deciding more intentionally. And what they're responding to now is this: the quality of the coaching itself. Not the extras, not the volume, not all the bonuses or how much is included, the actual coaching. Now, what that means is mastery of your craft of coaching, and I am so down for this.

So in this episode, we're going all in on what it means to be masterful at your craft. The difference between sessions that feel supportive and sessions that actually create change, and why your level of coaching is directly tied to how your business grows from here forward. So before we dive in, go ahead, do me a favor, click that follow button so you never miss an episode.

All right, so let's dive in with the first thing, which is that coaching that sounds good isn't the same as coaching that changes lives. And here's what I see all the time. By the way, I've been teaching certification for more years than I can remember. I actually, I'd have to think back. I think it's like 15 years. I've been in business 24 years, been certifying coaches for I think 12 or 15 years. And I decided from the very beginning of my business to be masterful as a coach. Just even bringing this episode to you today makes me so excited. I feel so much passion and loyalty to the craft of coaching. So understand, that's where I am coming from because, well, what I'm about to dive into, which is that coaches, I see coaches all the time who are thoughtful. They're caring, they're heart-centered, and certainly well-intentioned.

But their sessions, yeah, they're good, but good, good is not great. Good is not masterful. Good is where the client talks, the coach listens, there's reflection, some insight. But 20 minutes later, nothing has freaking happened. No decision, no interruption of the pattern, no truth that changes the direction of the conversation, no shift the client can take back into her real life. And I think women deserve better coaching than that. I think the coaching industry has normalized sessions that “sound" supportive but never become transformational. Too much circling, too much processing without leadership. Too many missed opportunities to challenge a perspective or interrupt a pattern or to tell a truth or to move a client into a new decision.

And the hard part is, everyone leaves the session thinking it was fine. It was good. But good session energy is not the same thing as masterful coaching. Now, I'm not talking about being a bully and running over a client. I've seen some coaches like that. I do not prescribe to that at all, not at all. Coaching should not be bullying. It should just not be interrupting people and saying, "No, no, no, this is how it goes." No, that's not coaching either. But clients are craving coaching that changes something, coaching that wakes them up. And that's the issue. Because in today's environment, “good coaching,” it's not going to create demand. Results do. Masterful coaching does because masterful coaching creates an experience of transformation. Write that down because that's the standard now.

Really quickly, and I'm not here to disrespect someone's style or methodology, but I was recently listening to a podcast episode of somebody who also teaches coaching. And they were actually playing a session where they were coaching somebody, and I have to be honest with you, it was fingernails on a chalkboard for me. It was bland. The coach was primarily just repeating back what the client had said to them. 20 minutes into the session, nothing had happened. The session was, I'll be honest with you, boring. There were so many missed opportunities for a reframe, for a perspective shift, for a pattern interrupt, for an up-leveling. And it was like, oh my God, how is this session ever going to go anywhere? No, that's not the way coaching should look or sound, and that's not the kind of coaching people invest in and invest premium in.

So that brings me to my second piece here. Masterful coaching is depth and precision. Masterful coaching, it goes deeper. It's not just understanding what the client is saying. I mean, obviously it is that, but it's hearing what's underneath it. It's hearing what isn't necessarily being said and asking questions to address that, to bring that up to the surface and shine a light on it and knowing exactly where to take your client next. And it's not like you can be predictive and say, "Well, if I ask this question, this client is going to answer me this way and the coaching will go down this path." It's not predictive. It's a human being you're coaching. But it's knowing the direction you want to take the client and seeing what happens. It's being a little provocative. And this is where your craft becomes unmistakable.

So a quick little checklist here for you is that masterful coaching sounds like, number one, naming what the client can't yet see. I love that. Number two, interrupting the pattern in real time. Number three, leading the session instead of following it. That is huge. I've been preaching that for 15 years. And number four, moving her into a decision, not just awareness. Now, don't get me wrong, insight, it absolutely matters. Insight is wonderful. Being seen and understood matters. That's what creates trust. But masterful coaching doesn't stop there. Masterful coaching turns insight into movement. So your client doesn't just recognize the pattern, she changes how she thinks and what she does next, and that's the difference.

All right, and that leads me to number three, why coaches stay in good instead of becoming masterful. Now, this part matters so much because this is where clients really feel seen. Most coaches, they're not underskilled because they don't care. They care very deeply. They're underskilled because they've learned to stay in empathy instead of leadership. They've learned to ask questions instead of direct the session. Now, I want to be clear, you can direct the session beautifully by asking questions. But when I say ask questions instead of direct the session, I'm talking about asking questions that just kind of circle round and round and round and don't really go anywhere. They're underskilled because they've learned to let the client process instead of guiding towards an outcome.

Again, I'm not saying you have to rush a client or hurry the client up or anything like that. But I believe masterful coaching is leadership, and your job is to lead them towards an outcome. And they're underskilled because they avoid or just miss the moment where a decision needs to happen or a breakthrough, a perspective change, a reframe. A lot of coaches just miss that moment. And I think that, I'm going to say normal coaching, it feels kind and it definitely feels safe. There's no doubt about it. It feels safe, but it doesn't create transformation. And over time, that shows up in very real ways for you in your business. Results that don't go as deep as they could, testimonials that sound nice but not powerful, referrals that don't come consistently, clients who plateau very, very quickly instead of expanding, and you as the coach, you feel that. Because when coaching isn't creating real movement, your business eventually will reflect that, and it doesn't take too long to reflect that.

Clients hesitate before signing up again, so your renewals tank. Referrals become inconsistent if they happen at all. And testimonials sound nice or encouraging, but they don't carry any power. And the work stops building momentum. And this is why mastery matters so much. Masterful coaching creates expansion for the client, absolutely, but also for your business. Because when your work consistently changes people, people talk about it. They come back, they renew, they bring others with them. And that's how a coaching business becomes undeniable and successful.

All right, let me go on to point number four here. Your coaching skill is what supports your income. When your coaching is masterful, clients decide faster. They stay longer. They refer more. They trust you deeply. And this has so many practical applications for you and how you spend your time running your business, because guess what? Then you don't need as many leads. You don't need to overexplain the value of your coaching. You don't need to prove your pricing. But when your coaching is just average, when it's just normal, yeah, you're going to compensate with more content, more selling, more convincing. And that, my beautiful soul, as you already know, is exhausting. It always feels like you're coming from a place of insufficiency, and that does not feel good.

So here's the point I want to drive home. Mastery simplifies your business. And this leads me to point number five, because this is where your standard gets set higher. The coaching industry is not slowing down. It actually is not slowing down, but the tolerance for average coaching, yeah, it's gone. Women are no longer impressed by access or volume or how much is included. They're paying attention to one thing: Does this coaching actually change something for me? The coaches who are rising right now have decided my sessions create movement every time. They know how to get to the truth quickly. They know how to stay with emotional depth without getting stuck in it. They know how to lead a client into a decision. They know how to create a shift inside a single session. And this is where the line is drawn now. And when you step up to that line, your work starts to really stand on its own.

So to wrap up here, mastery is what this moment is asking of you. And I'm not talking about perfection, I'm not talking about pressure, I'm talking about mastery. It's one of my favorite words, meaning a deeper command of your craft. The way you listen, the way you lead, the way you take a client from where she is to a place she couldn't get to on her own. A stronger ability to create change inside a single session. A level of precision that your clients can feel the moment they work with you. That's what shapes your results. That's what builds your reputation. That's what allows your business to grow without you constantly having to push it forward. And this is what clients are saying yes to now. And when you meet that standard, you don't have to convince or chase or prove your work, your reputation, it does all that for you. It really leads the way.

So if you're looking at what to refine next, master your craft. Because when your coaching becomes masterful, your sessions change, your clients change, and your business really starts responding at a completely different level.
